Woke early. Back at the theatre503 for ten. Focused in the morning with Robin and Mark. Then a lazy lunch break and into the projection tech. Once they started with the projector, I ended up sitting outside twiddling my thumbs til hometime. Projection inevitably doesn't just add a day to your get in time, it adds a day more than you thought it would.

Today I listened to Graham Fitkin's Flak. This, I am very happy to say, is pretty fucking good. The opening pieces, for two pianos and eight hands, swing wildly between minimalist, sleezy jazz, eighties sitcom theme tunes, and hitting the keyboard with a sledgehammer. The later tracks for solo piano are then gentler, and moving.

Did Pilly tell you about the nightmare that was Paradox's AV scenes? We handled all the "captain talking to people on-screen" bits using AV projection, which broke literally half the time, but only once we were actually on-stage, so we had to run with it. And recorded voices are a pain to act against, anyway. The best one was when the whole setup broke so completely that we had to grab someone who wasn't meant to be on stage, shove her into a spare captain's uniform (I was speaking to a future version of myself because of a temporal paradox) and stick her at the side of the stage in a spotlight. Bliss.
