Wake early. Leave N and hotel at 09:20 (collecting phone on way out) so as to be at the empire state at 10am. Still queue for an hour. Get to the top where I discover (a) I have no signal and (b) I still have no charge. Take some photos. The people really do look like ants. Eat the other half of yesterdays bagel and attract not one but four pigeons. They watched me as I ate, fought amongst themselves and, eventually, one went for me. Head down the lifts. Ditch the awful photo. Subway to Brooklyn. Off at Atlantic Avenue and walk the length of 5th av. Great timing as I pass a school at recess. Kids (& crossing guards) everywhere. Arrive at the Brooklyn Super Hero Supply Shop. As it closes due to staff shortage. Dejected, swing on to 4th av. Subway to 42nd st (times Square). Virgin Megastore. Many CDs. Wandered past the Rockafeller centre to 5th Then South and East to get the subway from 42nd (Times Square) to Christopher Street. Meet Nina at 16:00ish. Bagel (spinach with sundried tomato cream cheese) for lunch. Over to a 'cheap' record shop (a la MVC). DVDs bought. Then back to the subway, back to brooklyn and back to the, thankfully open, super hero supply shop. (tick) Bought books & a T-shirt but not a cape or tights or a black hole or an O-firer or ropes or plans or any superhero supplies at all. Then to a cute little cafe with many kids being tutored. Kenyan AA coffee and two oatmeal and raisin cookies. Wait for Tavis to call. Depart 20:00. Walk up 5th avenue and board a homeward bound tube. On one of the tracks we passed, a very cool jazz duet (as Nina correctly suggested) played. Jump out on the Upper West Side. Ollies (Fusion chinese) for dinner. Lots of tasty noodles. Raining by the time we left, but N was full so found it difficult to march. Dashed home quickly as possible while protecting books and noting addresses. Bed.
