I went to see Kit and the Widow recording their new DVD at Cadogan Hall last night. It was so lovely to see a crowd of -LES there. It was so good to hear a best of set, although there were still a couple of weak numbers I would have weeded out. The boys were on good form and I laughed at things I've heard a dozen times before. But best of all was the lady sitting next to me. 70 if she was a day, on her own, dolled up and having a wonderful time. She even heckled at one point.

You know, I've a gin and tonic before I came out. at six o'clock. It's a little tradition. When my husband was alive, every day he would have a whisky and water and I'd have a gin and tonic at six o'clock and then we'd watch the news. Well, he would. I don't think I used to watch it. I'm so glad to be out tonight, rather than in watching that awful debate. I'm apolitical. I always vote though. My grnadmother was a suffragette so I feel an obligation. It's a bit pointless because Chelsea is so true blue that you could put a blue rosette on a monkey and he'd get in. That's what my husband used to say. I once voted for Screaming Lord Such.

You know, when you get old, and there aren't many people older than me, the most important thing is your health. If you've got good health you can go on doing all the things you've done all your life. I'm out here tonight and I'm going to a ball tomorrow. I went to one a couple of weeks ago and I had to get my upstairs neighbour to zip me into my dress, but then I rolled home at three in the morning. I couldn't get it off myself, so I slept in it. I went to get the paper the next morning in an anorak and a pair of trainers and a silver ballgown and had to ask the newsagent if he'd unzip me. I'm not sure how he took that, him being muslim.

She sounds utterly wonderful, and just how I want to be when I'm old!

That line's completely made my day.
